    42 Amsterdam New Server

    Hi everyone

Once again - I'm probing possibility to change my main server
Last attempt were unsuccessful - i hope this time something will work out

    Current server:
    CPU - Xeon E3-1275 v5
    MEM - 64GB
    DISK - x2 - 512Gb NVme
    SYS - Windows Server 2012 R2

It is 4 years old by now - but it does perform perfect still.....
Time goes on though ...and for the same price i can get 12 cores AMD ...with 128GB memory ....and 4TB NMme ... so..

Although .....there is a catch :
Server that i got my eye on - can be only located in Sweden ...

To test this - i've got two temporary VPS servers:
(The reason for 2 VPSs - is to equalize the hop count ....(dedicated server will have less) thus - do not try to ping actual server for comparison - results will not be correct)

    95.217.152.132 - (Sweden - possible new location)
116.203.186.195 -(Germany -Nuremberg where main server is located)

42Amsterdam moved to a new server

    Ryzen 3900 (12 cores)
    128GB memory
    4TB NVMe

Same location as previous one - so should be no diff in ping

    About the new server

I've noticed that some players use server IP instead of domain name

This is just not handy ...and error prone

First of all - there is a patch - though i do understand some players simply not capable to install it ...(helped one recently ...and yes its a woman)
No problem with using direct access connect - but i would advise to use the host name instead of IP - 42amsterdam.net whenever that changes you wont have to do anything.

So ...if anyone still has the old IP "138.201.82.138" set for accessing servers - change it to 42amsterdam.net

    One interesting thing I've noticed

New server is AMD ...and it handles tasks load distribution differently than Intel

    here is current server:

load is shared between 6 cores ...and rest is idle ...until a threshold - then next core is used

With Intel CPU - loads distributed evenly among all cores...

    nop ..nada ...

all affinity settings mostly ignored ... though i did get 2 mores cores utilized

i think there ought to be a setting in bios for this behavior
though i cannot access it - this is a hosted server

i've changed from balanced few hours ago ...
now it seems that some tasks are spread among the rest of the cores

files.42amsterdam.net will be moving to a new location as well

It does not mean anything for gaming (forum only and downloads)
but anyone who still stuck to old IPs - now been notified.

Two servers ...map.42.... & files.42... will be combined into a single dedicated server
Hetzner prices are so low - i could not resist

as well - 1TB of disk space ....(compared to 80gb + 250gb previously)
