View Full Version : 42 Is completely independable
Good news everyone
Starting from today - 42 forum is completely undependable from anybody
No trackers, no remote sources, no nada
Today I've replaced last part of the forum that was using third party services - Maps
From now on - 42Amsterdam has it own maps server !!
Possibilities of having own map server are endless :)
Styling: ...having America painted black ...simple as american pie
Renaming: ...having Poland named as Kabanosiland ...no problemo at all !!
First - I'll try to give Alaska back to Russia :)
Just for fun

So now this is yours 100%... right?

What? :o Sounds like playing Europa Universalis 2 or 3...
If Alaska goes back to Russia, then it would be cool to:
- Sardinia independent from Italy or back to Spain again;
- Corsica independent from France;
- Catalonia and Basque Country as sovereign states (they are divided between France and Spain)...
- Northern Ireland to EIRE and Scotland independent from England.... LOL you could use different (transparent) flags or colors for each land! I'm joking, though. :)

It always was ...but now - there are no dependencies - everything is served from 42Amsterdam servers (3 of them at the moment)
As well - what do you count "Yours" ? ...
Forum is from "VBuletain" ... i paid for it ...and cannibalized the code in order to integrate it with my system
Maps - are open source (https://openmaptiles.com/downloads/planet/) (as for now...) ...i've created my own server based on Database of world tiles... using mapbox-gl (https://github.com/mapbox/mapbox-gl-js) library available on github
"Mine" ...is a very wide definition now days...(unless you've designed and created your self)

Good news everyone
Since I've got my own maps server
I've spent some time to convert and optimize the data I had
So...now there is also a distribution version of map server.
It's still huuuuuuge ...!! ...smaller
but still huge !!
Zipped archive is 33Gb size - unzipped will be 70GB
This is not for casual user !!! - buuuut...
It is a portable version of world maps -
that does not require internet to be plugged-in ...
any prepper would appreciate it !!!
Requirements:
1 - Patience... you'll need it !!!
2 - ~160Gb free disk space (file/unzip/import ...all will add-up to that) -
(That's temporary ofcoz...final size after import is ~40Gb)
3 - Apache server installed
4 - MySQL server installed
5 - Enough coffee/beer to go through unzip/import procedure
Unzipping - will take some time...
Importing DB - will take double that time
but once you through ...- you got your own map server !!!
If you still interested :) - download it here (https://42amsterdam.net/samforum/downloads.php?do=file&id=570)
